Hans Hateboer’s season is likely over after Atalanta announced on Sunday that the Netherlands full-back had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his team’s Serie A win at Lazio.
In a statement Atalanta said that the 29-year-old would undergo reconstructive surgery in Rome on Monday following tests on his knee.
Hateboer, who has 13 caps for his country, was substituted midway through the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 win in the Italian capital which moved Atalanta into third place in the top flight.
Atalanta are level on 41 points with Roma and AC Milan, all three clubs trailing league leaders Napoli by 15 points.
