Malta will be hosting one of its biggest boxing events ever to take place here this weekend as the vacant Commonwealth Flyweight title will be on the line during the Fightzone event at the Hilton Hotel in St Julian’s on Saturday.
The event’s boxing card also features a bout where the Maltese national middleweight title will be on the card while a number of amateur fights will also take place.
However, no doubt the biggest attraction of the night is the fight between British fighters Connor Butler and Craig Derbyshire who will go head-to-head for the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title.
This the first time that such a prestigious title fight will be held in Malta.
The event’s card also includes a clash between Christian Schembri and Elton Azzopardi who will be vying for the vacant Maltese national middleweight title.
On the other hand, former European bantamweight champion Ryan Farrag makes his long-awaited return and there will be opportunities for a plethora of young talents.
In fact, earlier in the night, there will be a number of amateur contests as ex-world champion Derry Mathews brings a team of youngsters from Liverpool to face a select group of Maltese amateurs. The show, licensed by the Malta Boxing Association, will be promoted by Stephen Vaughan for Vaughan Group Malta in association with Fight Academy, J&J Crump & Son and Prize Boxing Promotion.
