The BSJ Cycling Time Trial, hosted by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club under the auspices of the Malta Cycling Federation and supported by the Eastern Regional Council as part of the European Region of Sports activity, welcomed cyclists representing all local clubs.
The time trial, which took place in perfect weather conditions, took place in Fleur-de-Lys on a 2.5km loop.
The starting sequence, which saw cyclists depart on the minute, saw Under 14 categories start the time trial, followed by the Ladies, Masters 50+, Masters 40+, Juniors and Elite.
The Elite category saw an all Team Greens podium with Clive Ebejer winning the class, just six seconds ahead of team-mate Etienne Cutajar. In third place was veteran Etienne Bonello, who finished nine seconds behind Ebejer.
The Ladiesâ race was won by Krista Kuusijarvi (Birkirkara St Joseph) who gained an advantage of 1 minute 49 seconds over second-placed Michelle Vella Wood (Team Greens). Slightly behind Vella Wood was Fiona Tedesco (Mosta Cycling Club) who made her time trial debut on the day.
Age Group Category trophy winners included Luke Borg (The Cyclist) â Under 23; Kevin Muscat (Mosta Cycling Club) â Masters 50+; Luis Joaquin Rojas Guzman (Team Greens) â Masters 40+; Kristina Spiteri (The Cyclist)- Juniors Female; Liam Daly (Shamrock Stars) â Under 14; Zija Fuji (Shamrock Stars)- Under 14; Ryan Gatt (The Cyclist) Under 16M; Roanna Farrugia (Agones SFC) â Under 16F.
The event included a short mass start race for Under 12 cyclists which took on the route prior to the start of the time trial. Finishing first in their respective categories were Shamrock Stars cyclists Kai Debono and Nina Debono.
Trophies were presented to the winners by Mr Anthony Chircop, President of the Eastern Regional Council, who were supporting this event.
In a statement, the club expressed its gratitude to the Eastern Regional Council, Birkirkara Local Council, Transport Malta and all the participating Clubs for their support.
The clubâs next event will be a Sprint Triathlon, scheduled to take place on Sunday on the Salina Coast Road.
