The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) and the Mediterranean College of Sport (MCS) signed a memorandum of understanding in which they agreed to collaborate in various areas including coaching, sport development, sport research and sport science as well as exchange programmes.
The two parties also agreed that the ASA national team coaches, Milan Cirovic (waterpolo), Delon Dannhauser (swimming) and Michelle Hubner (artistic swimming) will also be head coaches at MCS for their respective sport disciplines.
The school will open its doors in September 2024.
âThe MoU signed today strengthens the collaboration between the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and the Mediterranean College of Sport,â ASA president Karl Izzo said.
Izzo explained that this agreement will pave the way for other future projects, initiatives and programmes, so as to ensure the tangible implementation of todayâs agreement.
Pio Vassallo, chairman of the Mediterranean College of Sport, said: âThe Mediterranean College of Sportâs mission is to continue growing and improving the game of waterpolo, swimming and artistic swimming and the people in it at all levels, while fostering a positive social change to embrace a sporting culture.
âIt is therefore crucially important that the Aquatic Sport Association and the Mediterranean College of Sport work together to offer opportunities to hundreds of children using sport as a tool for education.
âWe welcome this agreement and hope that it is the start of a needed sporting cultural change in our country.â
The MoU was signed by Izzo and Rita Azzopardi, president and general secretary respectively, of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and Vassallo and Charloâ Bonnici, chairman and CEO respectively, of the Mediterranean College of Sport.
