Birkirkara sign Jake Vassallo, make formal approach for Ħamrun midfielder Guillaumier

Birkirkara make audacious approach to sign Ħamrun Spartans and Malta midfielder Matthew Guillaumier.

Birkirkara have signed a second Maltese player in the summer transfer window after sealing a deal for young defender Jake Vassallo, the Times of Malta can confirm.

The Stripes are far from finished as the Times of Malta can reveal that they have made a formal approach to Ħamrun Spartans to sign Malta international midfielder Matthew Guillaumier.

Last week, the Stripes announced that they completed a deal to bring in Aleandro Garzia from Birkirkara, and on Tuesday evening they wrapped up all the details to complete the signing of promising defender Jake Vasallo.

Vassallo, a Malta U-21 international player, has been a key figure for his former club Mosta in the past few years and developed into a very reliable defender.

At Birkirkara, the young defender will have the opportunity to develop his talent further under the charge of Paul Zammit.

“Birkirkara FC is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached for the transfer of Jake Vassallo from Mosta FC on a long-term agreement,” the Premier League club said in a statement.

“Everyone at Birkirkara FC warmly welcomes Jake to the club and look forward to a successful future together.”

However, Birkirkara, under the charge of new president Chris Cardona, look to send a real statement in the summer transfer window as Times of Malta can reveal that they have made a formal approach to Ħamrun Spartans for midfielder Matthew Guillaumier.

Guillaumier has only been at the Spartans for six months after joining them during the January transfer window and it looks unlikely that Ħamrun will be open to let one of their top midfielders leave.

But Birkirkara are determined to test their resolve in a bid to bring back Guillaumier back to their club.

Added to that, Birkirkara are currently in advanced talks with another Malta international Alex Satariano, who is currently plying his trade in Greece.

Discussions have been ongoing but the Stripes look optimistic of striking a deal for their former player.

Times of Malta can also confirm, that Birkirkara are also keen on trying to sign another Ħamrun Spartans player Henry Bonello, whose contract with the Spartans expired at the end of the season.
