Watch: Malta’s Jodi Jones scores spectacular winner to send Notts County into final

Jodi Jones was the hero for Notts County as the Malta international winger scored a last-gasp winner for his team in extra-time against Boreham Wood to send his team to the play-off final at Wembley Stadium after a 3-2 win.

It was a stunning finish from the Malta forward who had come off the bench late in the match and he took centre stage when he first set up a late equaliser to force extra-time before then striking the winner as the match looked set to head to penalties.

No doubt, it was an extraordinary finish to a match that had seen Notts County all set for a heart-breaking defeat in front of their own fans as they trailed by two goals by the end of the first half as goals from Femi Ilesanmi, on 37 minutes, and another from Lee Ndlovu in stoppage time had handed Boreham Wood a 2-0 lead.

Aden Baldwin gave hope to Notts County when he pulled a goal back two minutes into the second half.

However, Jodie Jones’ entrance on 78 minutes turned out to be a game-changer for Notts County as the Malta winger set up Baldwin for a dramatic equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time to send the tie into extra-time.

And then, when it looked as though the match would head to a penalty shoot-out, Jones took centre stage with a world-class strike.

The former Coventry winger picked up a short clearance from the Boreham defence and after moving past his marker he let fly a thunderous drive that flew into the roof of the net to send the Notts County fans into raptures at Meadow Lane.

Notts County will now head to Wembley Stadium for the play-off final where they will face either Chesterfield or Bromley for a place in League One next season.
