Birkirkara FA have announced that they have successfully concluded negotiations with defender Enrico Pepe and Yannick Yankam to sign new contracts.
Pepe and Yankam have been an integral part of the Birkirkara squad over the years, and last season they played a pivotal role as the team placed second in the Premier League standings and then went on to win the FA Trophy.
Pepe, the Malta international defender, agreed terms to extend his stay with Birkirkara for another season.
“Birkirkara FC is delighted to officially announce the contract extension of the club’s captain, Enrico Pepe,” the club said in a statement.
“The Maltese National Team defender has proven himself to be an integral asset both on and off the field. His unwavering dedication to this club exemplifies the profound connection he has developed with the club and its passionate supporters.
“With his wealth of experience and remarkable leadership qualities, Pepe’s continued presence will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in steering us toward success in the upcoming season.”
On the other hand, Yankam is seen as an integral part of the Stripes’ future after his stellar campaign last season which saw him break into the national team and even score his first international goal in the Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia.
The Stripes held positive talks with Yankam who put pen to paper on a new three-year deal.
“Birkirkara is delighted to officially announce that Yannick Yankam has signed a new contract with our club,” the Premier League club said.
“This past season, the Maltese International midfielder has left an indelible mark, making it a truly memorable one. Yannick’s exceptional contributions played a vital role in the remarkable achievements of our team.
“His outstanding performances even earned him a call-up to represent Malta’s National team, where he scored on his International debut.
“We are excited to have Yannick renewing his contract and we are confident that he will continue to be a valuable asset for the upcoming seasons.
