Lewis Colwill’s chances of travelling to Malta with the England senior team are increasing, according to English reports.
The Chelsea player was a late addition to Gareth Southgate’s squad after Brighton’s Lewis Dunk was withdrawn due to injury.
Colwill, who is still uncapped at senior level, was included in the U-21’s squad on Wednesday as they will head to Romania and Georgia for the European Championships.
According to the reports, Colwill is thought of highly by Southgate and was training with the seniors rather with the U-21’s selection on Wednesday. This suggests that the Chelsea defender might be travelling to Malta for this Friday’s European qualifier before joining the U-21’s later on.
Colwill, who is currently is being sought by Brighton to bring him back on a permanent deal, is England’s fifth central defender in this squad together with John Stones, Harry Maguire, Marc Guehi and Tyrone Mings.
Manchester City’s Stones gathered with the England selection on Wednesday together with fellow treble winners Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Kalvin Phillips, Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish.
Reports close to the England side are suggesting that the Citizens players might not be included in the starting formation against Malta, but are in contention for Monday’s game at Old Trafford against North Macedonia.
