Valletta FC have announed the signing of Malta goalkeeper Jake Galea.
The former Malta international spent the past 12 months plying his trade in Luxembourg where he was on the books of FC Etzella Etterbruck but his contract was not renewed at the end of last season.
“Maltese international goalkeeper Jake Galea is a new Valletta Football Club player,” the Premier League side announced.
“We would like to welcome Jake and wish him the best of luck with our club!”
The acquisition of Galea is seen as a great coup for the capital club as the 27-year-old has always been rated as one of the best goalkeepers on the island.
Galea has a lot of experience in Premier League football as prior to his move to Luxembourg he had spells at St Andrews, Ħamrun Spartans, Sliema Wanderers and Balzan FC.
At Valletta FC he will replace Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone who earlier on Thursday announced that his stay at Valletta FC has come to an end.
“Unfortunately my time to say goodbye has come. It has been an honour for me to play for this team and defend its colours for 2 years,” the Italian wrote on his social media.
“I would like to thank all the team, starting from the players, the coaches and especially Gerard who treated me like a son.
“Last but not least I would like to thank all the supporters for all the love and kindness.
“Wish you all the best and hope to see you again in the future.”
