Maltese champions will face Ferencvaros in third qualifying round
Dinamo Tbilisi’s elimination from the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League against Ħamrun Spartans proved costly for their coach after he was dismissed from his post.
On Friday, the Georgian club announced that Giorgi Chiabrishvili’s contract was terminated after a mutual agreement with Dinamo Tbilisi.
Dinamo Tbilisi failed to progress to the next stage after a 3-1 defeat on aggregate, with Ħamrun winning 1-0 on Georgian soil in Thursday’s second leg tie.
“Giorgi Chiabrishvili left Dinamo Tbilisi. The contract between the head coach and the Tbilisi club was terminated by mutual agreement. Along with him Giorgi Dekanosidze, Lasha Nodzaze and Aleksandre Itskirveli left Dynamo,” the club’s statement said.
Chiabrishvili was appointed as the head coach of Dinamo Tbilisi in June 2022, and in the same season he won both the championship of Georgia and the Super Cup.
During that season, the blue-whites played 49 matches under his leadership (29 wins, 9 draws and 11 losses).
“Dinamo Tbilisi football club thanks Giorgi Chiabrishvili and his coaching staff for their service. On behalf of the club, we wish them success in their future careers,” the statement continued.
“The Tbilisi club will make an announcement about the new coach in the near future.”
The Spartans will meet Hungarian giants Ferencvaros in the next stage with Luciano Zauri’s side to host the first leg, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the draws for the play-off round are pencilled for Monday.
