Young Maltese Maya Cachia has completed a move to Serie A side Como Women.
Earlier this month, the Times of Malta had reported that the 2004-born Maltese player left Venezia and was on the brink of joining a top-tier side in Italian football.
Cachia joins Como Women as third-choice goalkeeper with the first team while she will be featuring with the U-19’s side in the Primavera league as well, where they should be facing Brescia, Cittadella, Genoa Women, Chievo Verona, Tavagnacco and Trento.
“I am looking forward to start the new season with Como Women,” Cachia said.
“Following the opening training sessions with the team, I can now say that I have already integrated with my team mates and with the staff.”
At Como Women, Cachia is joined by Malta women player Emma Lipman who will play her third straight season at the club after salvaging their Serie A status last season.
Both Maltese players are part of Como’s pre-season camp under the new guidance of coach Marco Bruzzano, who took over from Sebastian de la Fuente – newly-appointed Fiorentina coach.

Cachia joined Venezia last season from Crotone, her first Italian club, but unfortunately did not make any senior appearance due to a long-term injury that kept her sidelined throughout the 2022/2023 campaign.
She returned to training in the closing stages of the season without making any competitive appearance for the senior team.
The former Malta U-19’s goalkeeper was part of the senior women’s national team selection during June’s training camp under the guidance of coach Manuela Tesse.
