Last season’s runners-up Caffe Moak Luxol announced their newest signing on Tuesday when they named US guard Tayler Bennett to their squad.
“Finally, we are proud to announce the signing of Tayler Bennett with our club,” a club statement read.
“The American guard, who has played in the Norwegian top level over the past two seasons, will be a great addition to our relatively young team! Welcome to Luxol!”
Bennett joins after a stint in Norway with Asker Aliens’ women’s team where last season, she averaged 35 minutes a game in 26 showings for the side. Her offensive threat is set to be the troubling factor for opponents this coming season as the 5’8 guard averaged 22.2 points a game on a 51.5% field goal percentage. She was 87% from the line and 41.7% from three. On defence, this was also the case as she averaged eight rebounds and 2.8 steals a game.
The former Academy of Art University player comes to Malta with big shoes to fill after last season’s import player Gladys Avila was one of coach Santino Coppa’s power plays throughout the season. In fact, an import guard has been the Italian’s go-to signing each year and this season’s acquisition looks just as threatening.
Luxol finished second in last season’s women’s league, falling to eventual winners Starlites FIJO in the finals. This meant they failed to hold onto the title they had won in spectacular fashion the previous season.
