Malta international Ylenia Bonett has signed for Austrian Damen Superliga side DBB LZ OÖ, her agent Daniel Chatchou of DC Sports has confirmed.
Bonett moves on from a one-year stint in Iceland with Snaefell Karfa last season where she averaged 32.3 minutes per game in 28 appearances. With 10.4 points a game, Bonett was 76.8% from the line and averaged 7.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.8 steals to finish the season as the side’s second-best ranked player. She was also a major part of Snaefell’s promotion to the Subway League – Iceland’s top tier.
The highly rated guard-forward was also rewarded for her efforts with a spot on the All-Icelandic Second Team at the Icelandic League Awards.
Now she will be heading to Austria’s top tier to join a DBB LZ OÖ side based in Wels. The team has already confirmed Milica Popovic and Eva Breuer this summer and with Bonett on their roster, the team will be hoping to one-up their season after finishing fifth in their last campaign. They ended the season with a 5-9 win/loss ratio, just missing the playoffs.
This will be Bonett’s second overseas team since the 20-year-old left Hibernians after the 2021-22 season. The Malta international was also part of Malta coach Angela Adamoli’s roster for the Games of the Small States of Europe which took place on homecourt in May.
While some had speculated she might be returning during the summer, it is now certain that her overseas experience will go on.
DBB LZ OÖ’s season begins on October 14 as the team faces Vienna United away from home in the league’s first fixture of the new campaign.
