Collaboration between MFPA and TOM Sportsdesk for season 2023-2024
The MFPA Best XI will be featured on the Times Of Malta social media and digital channels for the remainder of the 2023-24 domestic football season thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) and the Sportsdesk of Allied Newspapers Limited.
The MFPA Best XI pays tribute to the outstanding performers from the last BOV Premier League matchday together with the coach of the week. A pool of qualified coaches are engaged by the MFPA to watch every BOV Premier League match and identify candidates for the MFPA Best XI by rating the performances of all the players.
The marks awarded to the players from every top-division match are assessed and the ones with the highest ratings are shortlisted for the MFPA Best XI before the final selection is drawn up.
Since its introduction in 2021, the MFPA Best XI has proved very popular with players and football followers alike. This new collaboration with Times of Malta will further enhance the level of exposure for the MFPA Best XI in line with the two organisations’ shared objective to offer engaging content and promote local football.
Carlo Mamo, the MFPA General Secretary, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with the Times Of Malta, one of the country’s most popular and reputable media organisations.
“When we introduced the MFPA Best XI two years ago, our idea was to provide further recognition for the efforts and feats of the football players together with the coaches. Choosing the team of the week may be perceived as an easy and straightforward task but we wanted to ensure that the selection process is as credible and transparent as possible.
“Having a pool of qualified coaches evaluating the individual performances and eventually select the MFPA Best XI and coach of the week is, in our opinion, the best way to go about it and we are very pleased with the response we have received so far.”
Valhmor Camilleri, Sports Editor of Times of Malta, also expressed his satisfaction at the collaboration with the MFPA. “The Times Of Malta Sportsdesk is always looking to offer appealing content to our readers,” Camilleri said.
“The fact that the MFPA Best XI and coach of the week are selected by a pool of qualified coaches ensures the credibility of this feature which was a very important consideration for us. As the most important championship in domestic football, the BOV Premier League creates a lot of interest and we are confident that the addition of the MFPA Best XI to our coverage portfolio will be very well received by our readers.”
