Slovenian centre Klemen Skrabec will be on the sidelines for a while after an anterior cruciate ligament injury during this new season’s preparation.
The announcement came on Mellieha Libertas’ socials on Friday as they confirmed the injury.
“Unfortunately, our big man Klemen was diagnosed with an ACL injury. Stay strong and get well soon,” the club statement read.
Skrabec, who joined over the summer for his second stint, was unavailable for coach Ian Terribile on their return to play in the MBA Super Cup on October 1 and John Tabone Shield a week later. This had already hinted that the 6’6 player had suffered a preseason injury, however, there were no confirmation.
The Slovenian had been aiming for his return to Maltese basketball after having been at the club from 2019-2021 when the team was still in the amateur division of Maltese basketball. Added to that, Skrabec, having been living and working in Malta for a number of years, would be considered a local player in the eyes of the league.
