Swieqi United, Hibernians eye victories against Lija Athletic and Mtarfa respectively.
The final weekend of action from the second round of the Assikura Women’s League will pit Birkirkara and Mġarr United against each other.
The two teams will meet in Friday night’s kick-off at the Victor Tedesco Stadium as Birkirkara will be looking to retain their four-point lead while Mġarr will be looking to make amends for last week’s heavy defeat against Swieqi United.
The Owls, on their part, start favourites to pick up the three points against Lija Athletic while Hibernians will be also looking to secure another victory as they meet bottom side Mtarfa.
Elsewhere, San Ġwann and Valletta will take on each other in Saturday’s late action.
Led by coach Jose Borg, Birkirkara are at the back of a comfortable win against Valletta as they remain in first place with 34 points after 13 matches.
One of the scorers in the 4-0 win over the Citizens was forward Francesca Chircop who has now scored a century of goals in domestic competitions.
Moreover, midfielder Veronique Mifsud – a starter in this game – marked her 100th league appearance with the Stripes.
Mġarr, on their part, will seek redemption after their Swieqi defeat saw their gap to Birkirkara extend to eight points.
The Greens sit in fourth on 26 points after being pipped to third by Hibernians.
The Paolites, who defeated San Ġwann last weekend, will be expected to field a newcomer against Mtarfa after announcing the arrival of defender Kiley Norkus.
The American player, 28, has played in the United States, Sweden, Spain and Israel before embarking in Malta.
After the conclusion of the second round, the top four teams will be playing against each other for three rounds with the same format being applied to the bottom four sides as well.
