Balzan FC continued with their transfer activity as they reached an agreement to sign Australian striker George Blackwood.
The 26-year-old striker arrived in Malta this week to finalise talks and put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.
Blackwood has a lot of experience playing in the Australian A-League as he collected over 100 appearances for Sydney FC and Adelaide United.
He managed to win the Australian A-League championship with Sydney FC in season 2016-17 and then managed to secure the Australian Cup twice when donning the colours of Adelaide FC in successive seasons between 2018 and 2020.
“I am really pleased to see George at Balzan. George played over 100 games for Sydney FC and Adelaide United which are both top teams in the A-League in Australia,” Tagliaferro told the Times of Malta.
“He is a well-known player in Australia where he scored some fantastic goals there.
“George is also a very ambitious player and we look forward to him making his mark for Balzan here in Malta.”
Blackwood becomes Balzan’s third signing during the January transfer window as the club also managed to lure Belgian midfielder Olivier Rommens and South Korean winger Eui Gwon Han.
The Reds are not finished yet as they are hopeful of concluding another major deal on Wednesday which will see them secure the services of talented forward Jan Busuttil from Floriana with attacking midfielder Jake Grech heading in the other direction.
