Real Madrid striker Joselu will miss this weekend’s match against Sevilla after suffering an ankle injury, the La Liga leaders said on Friday.
The club did not say how long the Spain international would be out for, but local media suggested he could be missing for around three weeks.
“Following tests carried out on Joselu by the Real Madrid medical services, the player has been diagnosed with a bone oedema in his right ankle. His progress will be monitored,” Real Madrid said in a statement.
Joselu has been struggling with the injury since last week’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano, in which he scored the opening goal.
The 33-year-old has impressed since signing on loan from Espanyol at the start of the season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions for Real despite not being a regular starter.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men hold a six-point lead over second-placed Girona in La Liga, with reigning champions Barcelona two points further back in third.
