Adukor, also a Sliema player, part of successful Liberia squad against Djibouti.
Sliema Wanderers’ Mohamed Awad was on the scoresheet for his country after scoring one of Somalia’s goals in the 2-2 draw against Eswatini.
Awad, 29, scored his first ever international goal for Somalia to cancel Eswatini’s two-goal lead before his nation went on to complete the comeback.
Despite the late rally, Somalia failed to advance into the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifications as Eswatini qualified with a 5-2 aggregate, thanks to their 3-0 first leg victory.
Awad has been a key part of this season’s impressive campaign by Sliema, scoring four and producing three assists in 19 games across all competitions.
Meanwhile, another Sliema player was involved in this preliminary round as midfield Joachim Adukor was part of the Liberia squad that advanced at the expense of Djibouti.
Liberia had won the first leg 2-0 and held Djibouti to a goalless draw in the return game to make it to the next round.
At Sliema, Adukor made 13 appearances in which he scored twice and grabbed a couple of assists as well.
