Former Malta international was the club’s U-19’s coach for the last two seasons
Andre Schembri is eager to test himself in a new environment after Apollon Limassol announced that he will step down as U-19 coach at the end of this season.
The former Malta international was in charge of the club’s second team for the past two seasons and he now feels ready for a new challenge.
“It was my decision to seek pastures new as I like to test myself outside my comfort zone,” Schembri told the Times of Malta.
“I am eager for a new opportunity that can help me mature as a coach after two fulfilling years as U-19 coach with Apollon Limassol.”
Asked about his future intentions, Schembri said that he is open to any challenge, both at youth or senior level, as long as the club’s project is aligned with his ambitions.
He took over the U-19 side after spending one year as Operations Director with the senior team and a coaching spell with the U-15 category during the pandemic period.
During this 2023-24 season, Schembri was also in charge of the first team for a brief spell during a transition period that led to Spanish coach Pablo Machin taking over late last year.
“I would like to thank the Board of Directors for the trust they have shown me in recent years. Apollon is an association that is in my heart and I will always remember the experiences we had together,” he said on the club’s official website.
“Taking my first steps as a coach was a rich experience and a huge development for me both as a professional and above all as a person.
I wish the staff, players, and fans all the best for their future.”
