To compete in UEFA Youth League next season
Valletta FC are the winners of the Youth League Section A after they beat nearest rivals Mosta 1-0 in their final fixture at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.
The Citizens headed into match needing two results out of three to secure the title but made sure there will be no setbacks as David Garba fired home the winner on 54 minutes to the delight of Valletta fans that thronged the Centenary Stadium.
Valletta’s triumph in the Youth League has given a bit of reprieve to the capital club fans who in the past 24 hours were coming to terms with the fact that their senior team had suffered relegation to the Challenge League for the first time in their club history.
At the end of the match, MFA vice-president Matthew Paris presented the trophy and the medals to the Valletta players and officials.
It was a merited success for the Citizens who have been battling for the top positions in the Youth League for much of the season with Mosta and this result could prove a good starting point for the senior team to restore their place in the Premier League come the end of next season.
Additionally, this success provides Valletta FC the opportunity to compete in Europe next season.
This is because the Valletta FC Youth League side will represent Malta in the UEFA Youth League as Malta will be competing for the first time in this prestigious competition.
The Citizens will debut in the competition next September when they take part in the first qualifying round of the tournament.
Valletta will discover their opponents during the competition’s draw that will be held on September 3.
