Maltese athlete Luke Micallef capped a memorable weekend for local athletics after improving the 3k Steeplechase national record.
Micallef was racing in Belgium’s capital city, Brussels, and finished 20th in his race in a time of 9’00.12, improving the national record – set by himself in 2023, by nine seconds.
“A sub-9 finish is finally within reach and the next barrier to conquer!”, Micallef wrote on his social media.
Micallef’s record comes at the back of the 100m national record set by Beppe Grillo and the new Maltese best time in the 4×100 men’s relay, both registered during the Balkan Senior Championships in Turkey.
