Balzan FC announced that they had appointed Daryl Willard as the senior team’s assistant coach and Academy Head Coach.
The Reds have decided to change their technical staff this summer. Dave Rogers took over the role of head coach and will be now assisted by Willard.
The English coach will also be responsible of the club’s Academy with the task of nurturing the club’s young talent.
Balzan new coach Rogers welcomed Willard’s appointment.
“I am delighted that Daryl has agreed to join us at Balzan FC,” Rogers said.
“Daryl and I have known each other for many years and participated together in many FIFA and UEFA events so I know first hand the quality of coach I am bringing to the club. Also Daryl is a fantastic person whose values and principles align with mine.”
On his part, club president Anton Tagliaferro expressed his excitement after managing to lure to the club a top coach like Willard.
“These are exciting times at Balzan FC as we embark on a new chapter and professional development approach,” Tagliaferro said.
“I am very excited to have another UEFA Pro License coach in Daryl together with Dave working here at Balzan FC. I have no doubts Dave and Daryl will thrive on improving and developing the players, coaches and teams at the club.
“Both Dave and Daryl have had many years experience working as Academy Managers and Head Coaches at elite clubs around the world, including Liverpool FC and Chelsea and I am sure they will do a great job at the club.”
Willard said that the opportunity to work at a forward-thinking club lured him to join Balzan.
“I have heard many positive things about Balzan from Dave and the club president Anton and I look forward to getting to Malta and working closely with Dave and all the coaches and players at Balzan,” he said.
“To be part of a forward-thinking club which has a fantastic infrastructure and clear objectives of being competitive at every level and in focusing on player development really makes me proud to be part of the Balzan FC family and I can’t wait to get started.”
