Shaun Dimech will continue his career in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the Malta international midfielder agreed terms with champions Borja Banja Luka.
A report in the Bosnian media said that negotiations between the Bosnian champions and Dimech’s representative company, RSport Agency, are at an advanced stage and the 22-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option of extending it for another season.
For Dimech, this is a realisation of a lifelong dream to pursue his career abroad.
The talented midfielder has spent the majority of his career at his hometown club Valletta and is looking forward to starting a new exciting chapter with the Bosnian champions.
Dimech had a clause in his contract that should he receive an offer from an overseas club, the Citizens would let him leave.
At Borja Banja Luka, Dimech will have the opportunity to represent the club in this summer’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers as on Tuesday they were drawn to face Albanian side KF Egnatia.
Borja Banja Luka are one of the most popular teams in Bosnia Herzegovina and last season they were crowned as the country’s champions for the third time in the club’s history after finishing two points clear of Zrinjski Mostar.
Dimech is set to become the second Malta international player to have parted ways with the Maltese Premier League this summer and continue his career abroad.
Sliema Wanderers goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi has accepted the offer of Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol and is set to travel to the former Russian Republic to undergo a medical and seal his transfer.
