Rashed Al-Tumi is a new player of Moldovan giants Sheriff Tiraspol, the club announced in a statement.
The towering goalkeeper travelled to Moldova earlier this week to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
Al-Tumi becomes the first Maltese player that will be playing in the Moldovan top division and no doubt this move could help him develop further in his career.
Earlier this month, the Times of Malta had reported that Sheriff had approached Sliema Wanderers to sign the player and after talks a deal was quickly reached between the two parties.
For Al-Tumi this will not be his first experience away from our shores as the 23-year-old spent the majority of his teenage years plying is trade in Italy.
The towering goalkeeper moved to Palermo in 2016 and from then on he donned the colours of Casarano, Arzachena and Nocerina.
In January 2022, Al-Tumi was back to Maltese football when he joined Sliema Wanderers.
At the Blues, Al-Tumi helped the club win promotion to the Premier League and last season he played a key role in helping Paul Zammit’s side to not only finish third in the Premier League but also was decisive in their FA Trophy triumph.
In the final against ‘Old Firm’ rivals Floriana, Al-Tumi saved a penalty to help his team win the cup in a penalty shoot-out.
Now, Al-Tumi is looking forward to a new experience and he will start his pre-season preparations with his new team-mates ahead of their Europa League qualifiers commitments.
Sheriff Tiraspol will be facing Azerbaijan’s PFC Zire in the first qualifying round of the competition.
