Claudio Grech is the new president of Valletta FC after his group 1943 were given the nod to take charge of the club during the second part of the annual general meeting that was held on Thursday evening.
Grech’s 1943 group were one of three bidders that were looking to win the approval of the club members with others being former club sponsors Insignia and Britain’s Club Underground.
During the meeting, Grech’s group was unanimously approved as the selected team to take charge of the club, thus paving the way for the former member of parliament to be elected as the new president of the capital club.
Grech replaces Alexander Fenech who had been part of the Valletta FC committee since 2010 and served as club president for the past three years.
According to his manifesto, Grech’s group will be formed by a number of businessmen who are set to fork out a sum of money to provide the necessary funds to help the team return to the Maltese top-flight.
Valletta are keen to bounce back from what was a very disappointing season which saw the senior team being relegated from the top-flight for the first time in the club’s new history.
