The Albanian football federation (FSHF) announced on Wednesday the renewal of coach Sylvinho’s contract after the Brazilian oversaw an encouraging display by the Balkan nation at Euro 2024.
The 50-year-old will stay in post until at least December 2025, as will his assistants in compatriot Doriva and ex-Argentina defender Pablo Zabaleta.
Sylvinho’s Albania team finished on just one point in their Euro 2024 group but competed in every match in a tough pool which contained eventual tournament winners Spain, as well as heavyweights Italy and Croatia.
“After the success obtained in qualifying for the European Championship, the main objective will now be a historic qualification for the World Cup,” said the FSHF in a statement.
Former Arsenal and Barcelona defender Sylvinho took over the Albanian national team in January 2023, after previously having coached Brazilian side Corinthians and French Ligue 1 club Lyon.
