Sports Unity, which aims to bring together the sporting community in Malta, has joined forces with all Premier League clubs, and announced its inaugural event, bringing together football fans from all teams for a noble cause.
This event, held on the occasion of Match Day 1 of the newly launched Malta Premier League, will consist of a unique blood donation drive aimed at supporters of the 12 top-tier clubs.
While several football clubs have successfully organised blood drives in recent years, Sports Unity is seeking to bring together fans from all Premier League clubs to donate blood and save lives, in the belief that the collective effort will bring a more meaningful and substantial impact.
The event is also intended to encourage a spirit of mutual respect between supporters of the 12 different clubs before the kick-off of a highly-anticipated new season. The event will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 10am at the National Blood Donation Centre in Pietà. Fans are encouraged to wear the club jerseys to commemorate the event.
“We are excited to launch this initiative that can turn the collective passion of football enthusiasts into something truly life-saving,” said Ian Debattista, chairman of Ħamrun Ħanin, the voluntary organisation which launched Sports Unity.
“This event is a unique opportunity for fans to show their support not just for their teams, but for the greater good of our community,” he added.
Malta Premier League clubs have also expressed their enthusiasm and are encouraging their supporters to participate in this collective effort. Each donation has the potential to save three lives, highlighting the immense impact this event can have.
