AC Milan and Roma exchanged Alexis Saelemaekers and Tammy Abraham on Friday as both players switched Serie A clubs in season-long loan deals.
Both clubs had been planning a permanent swap deal for both players, but negotiations broke down, leading to separate loan signings.
Belgium winger Saelemaekers was also on loan last season, at Bologna where he scored four times for a team which reached the modern Champions League for the first time.
Abraham leaves Roma after three years with the capital club, with whom he won the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2022.
However he suffered a serious knee injury at the end of the following season which meant he missed most of the last campaign, playing just eight times.
Italian media report that England international Abraham could feature for Milan at Lazio on Saturday night.
