Antonio Flores clocked his 100m event in a seasonal best in his Paris Paralympic Games debut.
The Maltese athlete was competing in the 100m T64 category (single leg amputee, below the knee), finishing in a 13.07s.
Flores was racing against some of the best athletes across the world in his category.
In fact, the top three athletes in this heat were all on the podium in Tokyo.
Germany’s Felix Streng, who placed second in this heat, is the defending champion of this event.
In an official statement, the Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) stated that the result closely reflects the projected performance based Flores’s training and results throughout this season.
“MPC congratulates Antonio on achieving a seasonal best in this event and encourages Antonio to leverage the result as he prepares for the T64 200m that will take place on next Saturday 7 September.”
