The third and final race of the annual BSJ 5k Road Running Series, hosted by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club ended with Charlton Debono making a clean sweep throughout the Series.
Despite facing strong competition from Mario Grech, Tommy Wallbank, and Christian Micallef, Debono managed to outpace his rivals and secure the series title.
In the final race, it was once again a battle between Debono and Grech, who had consistently posed a significant challenge throughout the series.
Grech ultimately finished in second place, with Tommy Wallbank taking third.
The overall series podium was made up of Charlton Debono, followed by Mario Grech in second place and Christian Micallef in third place.
While predicting the winner of the men’s series might have been slightly more straightforward, the women’s category told a different story.
Each race in the series had a different winner, with the final race claimed by Mona Lisa Camilleri. Zia Fuji and Tara Abdilla, both regulars on the Series’ podium, took second and third place, respectively.
Fuji’s consistent performance throughout the series earned her the overall title, making her one of the youngest winners in the history of the series.
She was joined on the podium by Tara Abdilla and seasoned runner Carmen Hili.
Club president Ray Grech presented the trophies to the overall and age group winners, noting that despite being held in the height of summer, the Series continued to attract both new and veteran runners, drawn to this scenic race.
The club went on to thank Mtarfa Local Council, LESA and Coros for their support towards the series.
Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club’s upcoming athletic event is the unique Malta International Challenge Marathon, set to take place on the final weekend of November 22, 23, and 24.
This marathon, spread over three days, can be completed individually or as part of a relay team.
Registration is now open online on https://bsj.mt/event/2024-malta-international-challenge-marathon
