Perfect Birkirkara take on antagonists Mġarr in women’s league key clash

This weekend, all eyes will be on the highlight clash between Birkirkara and Mġarr United in the Assikura Women’s League.

Champions Birkirkara have been perfect so far, securing three wins from their first three matches, and will be looking to extend their dominant start to the season.

Mġarr, who currently sit on five points after a shock draw against Valletta last weekend, will be eager to bounce back and close the gap to the league leaders.

The Stripes, the reigning champions, have been in imperious form this season. A win in this match would already open up a commanding seven-point lead over the Greens, which could prove pivotal in the title race, even at this early stage.

Their squad will be motivated to maintain their unbeaten streak and send a strong message to their closest rivals.

On the other hand, Mġarr’s surprise draw against Valletta last weekend has set them back in the race, but the Greens are still very much in contention.

Mġarr will want to close the gap and ensure that Birkirkara do not run away with the title too soon. A win would not only boost their confidence but also tighten up the race at the top.

In another potentially tricky encounter, Hibernians face Valletta.

Valletta’s spirited performance against Mġarr last weekend will give them hope of causing another upset, while Hibernians will need to be cautious to avoid slipping up.

The Citizens have one point after three outings and are yet to find the net.

On the other hand, Hibernians have won two of their opening three matches, recording 12 goals and conceding none.

Meanwhile, Swieqi United will be looking to return to winning ways after their heavy defeat against Birkirkara. They take on San Ġwann, who will be eager to make their mark and spring a surprise.

Dorianne Theuma’s Owls are on three points after two defeats in the first three league outings.

San Ġwann, on their part, are on six points having won against Mtarfa and Lija Athletic, last weekend.

Lastly, Mtarfa face Lija Athletic with both teams having had challenging starts to the season and will view this game as an opportunity to gain valuable points.
