Marsaxlokk have parted ways with coach Winston Muscat, the Premier League club announced in a statement.
The southseasiders have experienced a very disappointing start to their 360 Sports Malta Premier campaign as they have yet to pick up a point after five matches and and are bottom of the standings.
Monday night’s 4-2 defeat to Mosta turned out to be the final straw for Muscat’s future as the club decided that it was time to make a coaching change.
The Premier League club issued a statement to announce their decision and they also paid tribute towards Muscat’s contribution at the club.
“As Marsaxlokk FC and Coach Winston Muscat part ways by mutual agreement, we would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for everything he has contributed to our club,” the club said in a statement.
“His dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on our club. Under his guidance, Marsaxlokk FC made its triumphant return to European football – an achievement that will forever be a part of our club’s history.
“He brought pride not only to the team but to the entire Marsaxlokk community.
“As we move forward, we do so with immense gratitude for the journey we’ve shared with you. We wish you the very best in your future.”
Muscat took over the reins of the team in the summer of 2023 and helped the team to qualify to the UEFA Conference League after finishing fourth in the Premier League.
Marsaxlokk put on a commendable performance against Albanian side FK Partizani, grinding a 1-1 draw in Albania before losing the return leg 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium.
However, the team struggled to perform in the Premier League as they lost all their league matches so far this season, forcing the club to relieve him of his duties.
