Nicolo Barella will miss Inter Milan’s clash at Udinese this coming weekend after suffering a thigh strain during the Milan derby, the Serie A champions said on Tuesday.
Inter said that Italy midfielder Barella has suffered the strain in his right thigh during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to AC Milan, adding that “his condition will be reassessed next week”.
Italian media report that Barella, 27, will be out until after next month’s international break, meaning he will also miss Inter’s Champions League fixture with Red Star Belgrade and the following Serie A match against current Serie A leaders Torino.
Barella was substituted during the second half of the Milan derby, which Inter lost 2-1 due to a late header from Matteo Gabbia.
Sunday’s defeat left Inter sixth in Italy’s top flight, three points behind Torino.
