Melita FC youngster Andreas Vella will continue his career in Italy after he reached an agreement to sign for Serie B side Palermo.
The two clubs have enjoyed a great relationship since signing a collaboration agreement last year.
Through this partnership, young Maltese players will be allowed to showcase their talent with coaches of the Italian side, with the possibility of continuing their career in Italy.
The club said that Vella impressed coaches from Palermo FC during a training experience with the Palermo U-17 team last season.
“Melita FC are delighted to announce that our homegrown Under 17 talent Andreas Vella has signed for Italian Serie B Club Palermo FC,” the Maltese Premier League side said in a statement.
“During a training experience with the Palermo Under 17 squad last season, as fruits of our ongoing relationship with the Italian Club, Andreas left a great impression on the coaching staff who were keen to sign him for this season.
“It is a privilege for us to see the great work being done in our now renowned academy, both on and off the pitch, leading our talented youngsters to earn better opportunities abroad and showcase their ability at higher levels! The club remains committed to providing more opportunities to our academy talents.
“Best of luck Andreas, we are extremely proud of this next step in an exciting career ahead.”
Vella is expected to train with the Palermo youth ranks with a view of featuring for the club’s Primavera side.
