Maria Farrugia opened her account at new club Sheffield United after scoring in Thursday’s League Cup tie.
The Blades hosted Sunderland, one of Farrugia’s former clubs, in the opening game of the women’s cup competition.
Despite Farrugia goal, who cancelled Sunderland’s early lead, Sheffield United failed to rescue at least a point after falling to a 2-1 defeat.
Farrugia and her Sheffield United side return in action this Sunday when they hosted Bristol City in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
