Following the successful launch of the Malta Invitational Games in 2022, the Maltese Olympic Committee will be organising the second edition between Friday and Sunday.
In line with the MOC’s vision of investing further in youth development, this year’s edition will centre around competition for Under 15 and Under 18 athletes.
Four different sports will be part of the programme: badminton, swimming, taekwondo, and waterpolo.
Competitions will be held at three different venues namely the Cottonera Sports Complex, National Sport School in Pembroke, and Tal-Qroqq National Pool Complex.”
More than 200 athletes and officials from 15 nations are expected to attend the Malta Invitational Games. These are Andorra, Albania, Cyprus, Faroe Islands, Greece, Guernsey, Italy, Latvia, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, San Marino, Slovenia and Malta.
The Malta Invitational Games are being held in collaboration SportMalta, the National Sport School as well as the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, Badminton Malta and Malta Taekwondo Association all of whom have been entrusted with the technical organisation of the respective competitions.
Entrance to all competitions is free.
Maltese Olympic Committee Director of Sport Charlene Attard remarked that the second edition of these Games is in line with the MOC’s vision of increasing international opportunities so that younger athletes – with the potential to move into Elite Schemes – have a broader competitive platform.
“Investing in our youth is critical to ensure that we raise the bar and reach our long-term goals,” said Attard.
Cyprus won the first edition of the Games in 2022, ending top of the list with 20 medals – 12 gold, two silver and six bronze.
Malta followed in second place with a total of 25 medals – seven gold, 10 silver and eight bronze. The first edition had featured three sports, namely bowling, taekwondo and triathlon.
The Malta Invitational Games are being organised with support from SportMalta, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, Badminton Malta, the Malta Taekwondo Association, National Lottery, APS Bank and General Soft Drinks.
