Australia-based midfielder Dylan Scicluna has withdrawn from the Malta national team squad due to injury, the Malta FA announced.
The Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder was the only new face in the squad named by Malta interim coach Davide Mazzotta on Thursday for the upcoming international window.
However, Scicluna was forced to withdraw from the national team squad after sustaining an ankle injury in Western Sydney Wanderers’ recent 4-1 league victory over Newcastle Jets.
The Malta FA said that Scicluna will have a scan in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury. He will remain in Australia to focus on his recovery.
Meanwhile, the national team have started their preparations for this month’s double-header.
Malta will face Liechtenstein in a friendly on Thursday and then take on Andorra in a decisive UEFA Nations League Group D 2 match on Tuesday, November 19.
