Malta U-17 international player Gunner Elliot left his mark for his club Chesterfield FC after scoring a goal in his team’s FA Youth Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town.
The tie was decided after a penalty shoot-out as both teams could not be separated after extra-time as they were locked in a 2-2 draw on a cold night. In the end, it was Chesterfield who prevailed 4-2 on penalties.
Elliot came off the bench on the hour mark and Chesterfield, who have former Malta international Justin Tellus as Head of Recruitment and Development, found themselves a goal behind when Hughes tapped the ball home from close in.
Elliot soon was in tick of action and ten minutes from time he made it 1-1 when Stringer picked the Malta international who did well to turn past his marker and fire home.
Elliot almost created a huge scoring opportunity for Chesterfield to win it when he picked Pucci but the latter failed to get his effort on target and the match headed to extra-time.
Chesterfield were back in front on 94 minutes and Elliot was again in the thick of action after procuring a penalty that was converted by Pawson.
Shrewsbury snatched the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the match through McKenzie-Thompson.
In the shoot-out Chesterfield goalkeeper came to the fore when saving two penalties to lead his team to a 4-2 win.
Chesterfield will now travel to Cardiff City in the next round of the competition.
