Serbian defender Ognjen Bjelicic is set to travel to Malta on Monday night to rejoin Malta champions Ħamrun Spartans, the Times of Malta can confirm.
Bjelicic has played an important role with the Spartans during the previous two seasons helping the club to back-to-back Premier League titles.
However, last summer the Spartans decided to part ways with the towering defender who returned to his homeland with Serbian top flight side FK Novi Pazar and made ten appearances with the club.
Still, when the Spartans offered the chance to return, Bjelicic took little time to accept and will now return to the club ahead of the start of the Closing Round this weekend.
The acquisition of Bjelicic is seen as a major coup for Ħamrun Spartans as the right-footed player will bring great experience to the Spartans backline and his versatility of being able to play as a wing back or defensive midfield will add more options to coach Alessandro Zinnari.
Bjelicic is expected to attend his first training session with the Spartans on Tuesday and will be in line to make his debut for the Spartans this season against Marsaxlokk this weekend.
Bjelicic becomes Ħamrun Spartans’ fourth signing after the club signed Jovan Cadjenovic, Bacary Sane and Kairou Amoustapha.
