Floriana striker Mattia Veselji is set to complete a permanent move to FK Smederevo, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Malta U-21 forward has found it tough to secure a regular place with Floriana FC this season and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he is keen to start a new adventure outside Maltese football.
This week, the young forward received an offer from FK Smederevo and quickly said ‘yes’ to their approach and is now expected to travel to Serbia to complete his move.
FK Smederevo’s offer to Veselji was masterminded by their sporting director Vladimir Simovic, who has good knowledge of Maltese talent having worked on our islands as technical director of Balzan FC for several years.
Contacted by the Times of Malta, Simovic said that FK Smederevo see Veselji as a very exciting talent and are keen to bring him to the club to help them in their push to take the senior team to Serbian top-flight football.
“FK Smederevo has created an exciting project for the future,” Simovic told the Times of Malta.
“The club is ready to invest a lot both in terms of infrastructure as well as the technical aspect as we are hopeful of winning promotion to the Serbian top-flight next season.
“We see Veselji as a great young player and his current club Floriana are happy to allow him to take this experience abroad and continue his development as a player.”
For Veselji this is set to be his second experience in Serbian football as earlier in his career he had a spell with Serbian club OFK Belgrade.
