Swieqi United women’s team made history as they were officially crowned champions of the Assikura Women’s League for the first time in the club’s history.
The team was presented with the prestigious trophy after finishing at the top of the table at the conclusion of an impressive season.
To cap off their remarkable title-winning campaign, Swieqi secured a hard-fought victory against Hibernians, with Karima Abdulai netting the decisive goal early in the first half.
During the trophy presentation, the Malta Football Association president Bjorn Vassallo and Andrew Grech, Managing Director of Assikura Insurance Brokers PLC, awarded medals to the players and technical staff before handing over the coveted trophy to Swieqi captain, Shona Zammit.
In the other Top Four match, Mġarr United secured a second-place finish after beating Birkirkara 4-2.
The Greens found the net through Maria Hernandez, Abigail Camilleri, Valeria Villegas and Rebecca Bajada.
On the other hand, Birkirkara’s scorer was Erica Bispo who grabbed both goals.
In the Bottom Four, San Ġwann scored in each half through Shania Gheiti, Tourki Chaimaa and Nanako Kobayashi to beat Valletta 3-0 and finish on top in this section.
Elsewhere, Lija Athletic clinched a victory in the season finale, beating bottom-place Mtarfa 3-2.
