LEN Champions League Final Four to be held again in Malta next month

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta will be hosting the Champions League Final Four for the second successive year when Europe’s top competition arrives at the National Pool between May 30 and June 1.

The Final Four will bring to our country the four teams that reached the semi-finals of the League and will face off in two semi-finals, with the winning teams crossing swords in the continental final on June 1.

Last year, the ASA was chosen to host this prestigious competition for the next three year and the government, in collaboration with SportMalta and VisitMalta, is giving its full support for the event organisation.

During this week’s launching, Clifton Grima, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation spoke about the progress Malta has reached in the sports sector.

“The investment that we made and that we plan to do in this sector has put the country on the sporting world map,” Dr Grima said.

“We managed to bring this event to Malta for a second successive year and that is yet another positive result of the work being carried out by the government along with the sporting associations.”

Dr Grima emphasised that the government is committed to help Maltese sport in every possible way so that it can continue to grow.

“It is of great satisfaction that our country is being chosen to host international sporting events, a proof of the professionality in this sector, the top-notch sporting facilities that we boast as well as the fact that we are being considered to have everything needed to organise events of such a high level in our country.

“This event will bring with it a number of benefits, including athletes and visitors of the highest quality as well as great visibility of our country for all the followers of this sport.

“In this championship, that started in 1963, the best teams in Europe are competing and it is the most prestigious competition for professional waterpolo clubs on the continent.”

On his part, ASA president Karl Izzo spoke about the tournament preparations.

“As part of the event, we will be setting up a sporting village at the entrance of the National Pool so that we provide a better match-experience for the fans present,” Izzo said.

“This year’s event is set to be broadcasted on various international TV networks while it will be further portrayed on social media and that will guarantee a huge audience from around Europe.”

Mark Cutajar, the SportMalta chief executive, spoke about his organisation’s involvement so that this prestigious event will be a great success, as happened last year.

“In collaboration with other sporting entities, we are providing the sporting public an event of the highest quality that they can follow in our country,” Cutajar said.

“Such stance is bringing several international events to our country.”

Tickets will go on sale on Monday, April 21 on www.showshappening.com.
