Former journalist Linette named No.2 at 2030 Winter Games

Cyril Linette, a sports journalist and the former head of French horse racing betting company PMU, was on Thursday appointed head of the 2030 Winter Olympics Organising Committee.

He will act as right-hand man to Edgar Grospiron, a former mogul skiing champion, who was elected chairman on February 18.

Grospiron hand-picked Linette, former director of sports at French network Canal+ and former managing director of sports newspaper L’Equipe.

Other members of the Executive Committee, which includes representatives of the French government and local authorities, asked for more time to meet Linette.

They confirmed the appointment on Thursday.

Last September, Linette made an unsuccessful bid for the presidency of the French Professional Football League, losing out to Vincent Labrune.
