Days after officially retiring from playing at the end of the 2024/25 season, Martina Borg will remain part of the Hibernians setup, taking on her first senior coaching role as the new head coach of the Hibernians women’s team.

She replaces Kenneth Costantino at the helm.

“A name synonymous with leadership and commitment, Martina has proudly worn the Hibernians shirt as a player, most recently serving as club captain. Her dedication, passion for the game, and deep understanding of our values make her the ideal person to lead the next chapter of our team,” the club said in an official statement.

“We are confident that Martina will bring the same determination and professionalism to the touchline as she did on the pitch, and we look forward to this exciting new era under her guidance.”

A decorated player in Maltese football, Borg also enjoyed a five-year spell in Italy, competing in both Serie B and Serie C while collecting 42 caps for Malta.

Hibernians finished fourth in the league this past season and suffered their third consecutive defeat in the domestic cup final.

As they look ahead to a new chapter under Borg’s leadership, the club has already confirmed the contract renewal of American defender Natalee Geren. Meanwhile, they have parted ways with three overseas players: U.S. goalkeeper Elizabeth Harrington, forward Alexis Espitia, and Brazilian playmaker Joelma.
