Watch: Barbara strikes a spinning hook kick to secure gold in Germany taekwondo tournament

Iron Taekwondo League athlete Gianluca Barbara won the gold medal in the Internationaler Becketal Cup that was held over the weekend in Germany.

Barbara was competing in the Masters -80kg division at the tournament held in the city of Gummersbach.

The Iron Taekwondo League athlete reached the final after receiving a semi-final walkover.

However, in the final, the Maltese fighter showed all his qualities when he overcame his German opponent from renowned club Sportverein Bayer Wuppertal with a spectacular spinning hook kick.

This gold medal becomes the eighth claimed in the masters division by Barbara since 2024.

The 11th edition of the Internationaler Becketal Cup was organised by German club TV Becketal and presided over by Grandmaster Bajrus Saliou.

In addition, the tournament also hosted Grandmaster Mu In Kim, a key figure in Taekwondo, who made his way to Germany for the occasion.

Also among the guests of honour was Hwang Yong Kang, a grandmaster from Cologne.
