Sliema Wanderers are set to complete a major double signing with the acquisition of midfielder Roko Prsa and winger Fernandinho, the Times of Malta can confirm.
Prsa bid farewell to Ħamrun Spartans on Thursday after his contract was not renewed and the Times of Malta had reported that he was being courted by a number of Premier League clubs, with Sliema Wanderers very keen on his signature.
Negotiations between the player and the Sliema top hierarchy accelerated on Thursday and there are only a few details to be sorted out before the player will be presented as the Blues’ latest signing.
Prsa joined Ħamrun Spartans in the summer of 2022 and turned out to be a great coup for the Reds.
The 29-year-old left an instant impact, forming a formidable midfield partnership with Matthew Guillaumier to steer the team to a historic qualification to the Play-Off round of the Conference League.
Prsa helped the Spartans to win three league titles, with his biggest impact coming last May when he scored the winner in the Top Four final against Birkirkara.
Added to that, the 29-year-old also helped the club to win two Super Cups.
Prsa will not be Sliema’s only signing in the coming days as the Blues are also closing in on the signature of Brazilian winger Fernandinho.
The talented winger enjoyed a very strong season with Floriana last season but his contract was not renewed by the Greens and he is free to join another club.
Sliema have been in talks with Fernandinho for several weeks and it is understood that a deal is in place for the player to join Paul Zammit’s squad.
For Fernandinho, the Wanderers are set to be the third Maltese side for whom he played as in season 2023-24 he was on the books of Marsaxlokk before moving to Indonesia with PSIS Semarang.
The capture of Prsa and Fernandinho is a major statement of intent from the Wanderers who are determined to be genuine challengers for the main domestic honours after missing out on European football last season.
