Ħamrun Spartans will bolster their defensive department with the arrival of Brazilian defender Rafael Compri, reports in the Brazilian media said on Thursday night.

A report on the Brazilian website Mironneto.com, said that Compri will be heading to Europe and join Malta champions Ħamrun Spartans.

Compri, 29, will be one of the new foreigners added to newly appointed coach Giacomo Modica’s side as they gear up for their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie against FK Zalgiris of Lithuania.

He is expected to feature as a full-back with Compri usually covering the right-back role in Brazil.

In 2025, the Brazilian defender was on the books of Caravaggio (First Division of Santa Catarina) and Gramadense (Second Division of Rio Grande do Sul).

Between 2013 and 2025, Compri played with 15 clubs, making 150 appearances. He also scored eight goals.

Should the transfer go through, Compri will become the latest acquisition for the Spartans, who have already brought in two midfielders to their squad, namely Lithuanian international Domantas Simkus and Matias Garcia, formerly of Floriana.

The Spartans are currently in Italy, where they are stepping up their preparations for the new season in a training camp in the region of Calabria.
