Swieqi United will be facing Moldovan side Agarista SS Anenii Noi in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League as the draw of the prestigious competition was held on Tuesday
The Malta champions were drawn in Group 2 and will be facing a semi-final showdown against Agarista SS Anenii Noi with the winner of the match progressing to the final where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Spartak Myava, of Slovakia, against Montenegro’s Buducnost.
This will be a historic participation for the Malta champions, who last April won their first-ever league title and will be making their first appearance in a European club competition.
Dorianne Theuma’s girls will be up against Moldovan side Agarista who also do not boast of a great experience in European club competitions.
Agarista have been a dominant force in Moldovan football, winning the league title in each of the last seven years.
However, when it comes to their participation in UEFA club competitions, Agarista are still in search of its first win in the competition.
No doubt, Swieqi will fancy their chances of at least progressing to the final and then giving it their best shot against either Buducnost or Spartak Myava.
The Group 2 mini-tournament will be played in Slovakia, with the semi-finals scheduled on July 30 and the final and third-place play-off on August 3.
