Maltese artistic swimmer Zea Montfort secured a very prestigious result at the European Championships after reaching the final in the Women’s Solo Free competition in Athens.
Montfort had already stood out for Malta during last month’s Games of the Small States of Europe, where she managed to win two silver medals.
On Wednesday, Montfort continued to rubberstamp her potential with a fine performance in the Solo Free competition.
Seventeen artistic swimmers were in action in the preliminary round, with the top 12 swimmers securing a berth in the final.
Montfort produced a brilliant display to score a solid score of 171.8601 that earned her 11th place in the standings, and a place in Friday’s final.
Spain’s Isabel Cui Xu topped the standings with a dominant score of 218.4725, with Italy’s Ginevra Marchetti finishing a distant second in 206.7913 while Georgia’s Maria Alavidze was third with a score of 205.5551.
Montfort was the only artistic swimmer from a GSSE country to make it into the final, as Andorra’s Zoe Palau Alcaide finished in 16th place on 123.4388.
